YOUTUBE: Yoga for your Lower Back

Did you know 80% of adults experience lower back pain at some point during their life? Causes for the pain can range anywhere from a minor strain to a full-on traumatic injury with many issues in between. Typically, pain medication is the first recommendation of treatment. The problem with this is that it only masks the problem for a short time, it does not solve the problem. It also creates a dependency on the medication for relief. This week, I’m bringing you another solution for lower back pain; Yoga! Yoga is a fantastic option for pain relief as it can offer instant relief as well as solving the issue completely with long-term, consistent practice. Prevention is always better than cure when it comes to yoga for your lower back, so this sequence is great for everyone. Not just those of us who struggle with lower back pain.

Duration

This sequence is approximately 30 minutes long and is great to do anytime.

Props

  • Yoga mat 
  • Comfortable clothing 
  • Yoga blocks (Suggested but not required)
  • Yoga strap (Towel can be used as well)
  • Blanket (Suggested but not required)

Skill Level

Yoga for lower back video is great for everyone whether you are brand new to yoga or have been doing it for many years. Modify more difficult poses as needed. 

Friendly Reminders

  • Silence your phone. The whole idea is to disconnect completely for a few minutes. 
  • Grab your yoga mat and props before the video as needed
  • Find a quiet space to set up. Preferably away from distractions and use the same spot each time for practice.

What’s Next?

Once you have completed the sequence, we encourage you to sit silently for a few moments. Practice this sequence at least 2-3 times a week for a few weeks and you’re sure to notice relief of pain and an overall stronger lower back.
